“Dalal Raj”: Nahata Textiles’ Sanju Nahata, former ward commissioner among five detained so far in Cachar
Beginning of the end of Dalal Raj in Assam says chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He has already made a statement, “no one will be spared,” and the Police is working following his direct instructions. So far five such alleged middlemen have been detained in Cachar. Barak Bulletin broke the news earlier this morning. The question that was raised is, will the Police take action against big shots or will the operation stay limited to few men with limited influence.
Barak Bulletin has accessed the list of individuals detained so far. Sanju Nahata associated with retailer Nahata Textiles has been detained. Former ward commissioner of Silchar Municipality Board, Ashim Das has also been detained. Apart from them, Nishikanta Sarkar, Ashok Sarkar and Nurul Haque have been detained for interrogation. Police will interrogate them now to carry the investigation forward.
Police sources have informed that the personnel are chasing other big shots who are absconding.
“In line with directions of the honourable chief minister’s office, the teams of Assam Police have arrested more than 450 persons last night indulging in unlawful activities involving land sale/purchase/holding. The action shall continue. We strive to identify the black sheep amongst Government personnel involved along with ascertaining unlawful backward and forward linkages of the persons arrested and take further action thereafter,” tweeted GP Singh, Special DGP Law and Order, Assam Police.
Name of a large hotelier has also surfaced and as per police sources, he is absconding at the moment. The Police is yet to trace his whereabouts. More big names might surface in the list of individuals detained in connection with involvement in unlawful activities.
The chief minister of Assam said this is an attempt to cleanup revenue offices, settlement offices so that the general public can buy and sell land without paying commissions.
