Hotel worker found hanging in Silchar; Manager says the deceased was advised to go on leave
In a shocking incident, the dead body of a hotel employee in Silchar was found hanging from the ceiling today morning. The incident happened in the Ukilpatty area of Silchar, where Orbit Hotel is situated. According to the hotel manager, the name of the victim is Paritosh Das, aged 50, who allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of the 5th floor of the hotel.
According to hotel staff, the victim is an in-house staff of the hotel who had been working there for quite some time. “On 26th, he came to us saying that he wasn’t feeling well, so the hotel management advised him to take leave for 4 days to go visit his family and get some medical check-up before rejoining us. But he refused saying that he’d rather stay the night of September 26, and then leave the following day. So accordingly, he stayed the night, had meal here just like any other day and that’s it. Since, 5 am of the following day, he wasn’t seen by anybody so everybody assumed that he had left by then”, said Rajat Basu, manager of the Orbit Hotel.
But this afternoon, when cleaning staff went to the rear end of the 5th floor for their routine clean up, they got foul smell which triggered further suspicion. “That part of the hotel is least visited as it is the rear end. It’s usually used as a storeroom space. That is where the hanging body of Paritosh Das was found in an already decomposing state. We then immediately called the police”. The body was then sent to the Silchar Medical College & Hospital for post-mortem.
According to Silchar Sadar TSI Nilam Sanjib Nath, the victim, Paritosh Das, hails from Bhanga area of the Karimganj district. But in Silchar, he used to live in a rented house on Ashram road.
“His body was discovered today at around 3 pm by the hotel staff, which had already started decomposing. Although, the deceased’s body has been sent for post-mortem, it is almost clear that it’s a case of suicide. Also, from the level of decomposition, we could guess that he committed suicide sometime around the early hours of yesterday.” The victim, however, didn’t have any official past record of mental illness related to him, and neither did he leave any suicide note before his demise.
