Huge fire breaks at the heart of Silchar; 8 shops more 4 houses gutted in Hospital Road

At around 3:30 am, rising flames were spotted in SIlchar’s Hospital Road and Ambicapatty area. People returning to their respective homes after pandal hopping were left shocked with the flames. Fire Brigade Engines rushed to the spot but could not find easy access to the source.

The flames got wild and kept spreading. “The operation is still going on but the fire has been brought under control,” informed officer in-charge, Silchar Sadar, D Bora.

“What we have gathered so far is that four houses and eight shops got burnt. This could change given the emergency services are still running the operation. However, the fire is completely under control,” added Samar Jyoti Das, IC Rangirkhari Police Outpost.

The locals of the area said that they have heard sound of multiple blasts. They suspect these could be LPG cylinders that exploded as the fire kept rising.
