Two men attempt to hijack car at gun point, get caught by locals; arms siezed
Two men hired a cab from Park Road in Silchar for Airport. As the car approached the airport, the men inside the car offered to pay Rs 50,000 to the driver. “They asked me to rent them the car for four days and they will drive it themselves. I refused and asked them to pay me the fare they booked me for. That is when they pointed a gun at me to my shock,” said the driver of the car, Kajol Hussain Laskar.
Scared by the gun, the driver jumped off after slowing down the car and cried for help. Both the men inside the car tried to flee with the vehicle, but then one of the local residents managed to snatch the key. The locals of the Udarbond area then chased the men down and nabbed them.
The local police was informed about the incident and the official reached the spot and detained both of them. Two men have been identified as Bikramjit Sinha and Bikranjit Sinha, both sons of Bapu Sena Sinha and according to their statement, they are residents of Haflong. However, they are repeatedly changing their statements and one of them has a driving license which states he is a resident of Hatigaon, Guwahati.
Cachar SP, Ramandeep Kaur rushed to the Udarbond to take stock of the investigation. As per the latest available information, Police is interrogating both of them.
The officials have seized four pistols from them including air gun, spray gun, four bullets, one knife, torches, mobile phones among other things. Cachar SP, Ramandeep Kaur said in her statement, “We are investigating the matter to find if the seized weapons are licensed to them. It is a case of armed dacoity and we are probing the allegations. We are also evaluating if they have any connections with other groups.”
