Gamblers VS Officials in Cachar: Police fires 12 round to disburse mob; “We are identifying miscreants,” SDPO Lakhipur

Cachar Police kept its hard stance against gambling activities during this Diwali. In Lakhipur, several raids have been conducted under the leadership of SDPO Kulapradeep Bhattacharya. In a village under Jirighat Police Outpost, the officials got to know that a gambling hub has been setup. The police went to raid the hub late on Thursday night.

While the raid was on, the gamblers counter attacked the Police officials with stones and other arms. “In retaliation, the Police opened fire just to disburse the mob that was certainly unruly,” said SDPO Kulapradeep Bhattacharya.

One Police official from Jirighat got injured during the stone-pelting. “No gamblers or miscreants incurred bullet injuries as the fire was opened only to disburse the mob,” asserted Bhattacharya.

He informed that a case has been registered and the Police is investigating the matter. However, more than 36 hours have passed and yet the Police has not been able to arrest anyone. “We are identifying the miscreants and will arrest based on the evidence,” said Bhattacharya. Hinting that the Police will detain a few culprits by Sunday.
