All flights to and from Silchar stands cancelled; Air India tech team inspecting aircraft post emergency landing
Silchar airport is as crowded as it gets. 144 passengers on board the Silchar – Kolkata airport have deboarded. They went through the panic of an emergency landing earlier today. AI754 took off at 7:30 from Silchar for Kolkata with 144 passengers. However, mid air, the captain Siddharth Ghosh noticed smoke coming out of the aircraft and initiated emergency landing process.
There was a hydraulic leakage in landing gear and that is why, the captain faced immense challenges. The bird touched down to secure a smoke filled landing. It occupied the parking bay disrupting air traffic.
There was a cloud of uncertainty looming large over the other flights scheduled to arrive and depart to and form Silchar airport. It can be confirmed that Indigo 6E 229 Silchar to Kolkata and Spice Jet SG 8169 Silchar to Guwahati have been canceled. Flights coming in have also been canceled.
The airport authority informed that they are waiting for a report from Air India which will detail the problems the aircraft encountered which forced captain Siddharth Ghosh to initiate emergency landing.
“The Aircraft was parked at Bay no. 3 due to which no other Parking Bay was available for accommodating further flights at Silchar Airport. Notam action was initiated regarding non availability of Parking Bay for the day on 10.11.2021. Action taken in priority to vacate the stranded aircraft from Bay no. 3 and it has vacated the Apron at 13:55 hrs. The aircraft is now placed at the Isolation Bay. Immediately action for withdrawal of NOTAM has been initiated Airlines have been instructed to ensure smooth cancellation / rescheduling of tickets and to provide all necessary support to passengers,” stated a statement issued by Airport Director, PK Gorai.
