Domestic violence against woman: Wife brutally killed by her husband in Cachar

Another instance of domestic violence against women surfaced from Cachar, Assam, this time a homicide. The husband hit her wife with sharp Dao and brutally killed her on the spot. The incident took place on Thursday around 8.30 pm in ward no. 3 of Binnakandi tea estate under Lakkhipur subdivision. Mangal Rikiyason (26) allegedly hit his wife Jaba Rikiyason with a sharp Dao on her neck while she was asleep and killed her at the spot. Mangal absconded from the spot after the incident.

On Thursday, Jaba Rikiyason aka Puni was sleeping with her children, while her husband, Mangal, suddenly appeared with a sharp Dao in his hand around 8.30 pm and hit her repeatedly on her neck. Seeing this, their five years old daughter started crying. Listening to the cries, Mangal’s mother and wife of Mangal’s elder brother, who lives in the house adjacent to them, came to see what was happening.

Mangal’s mother saw that he was roaming around with a blood-stained Dao in his hand, then she entered their house to take his children. She also discovered Jaba’s corpse lying there with severe cut marks on her neck. Mangal’s mother tried to make sense of the event, but Mangal threatened them with Dao. So they fled the spot with Mangal’s children and called neighbors. Meanwhile, Mangal also absconded from the site.

Accordingly, Lakhipur police were informed. A team from Lakkhipur police station under Officer In-charge Kula Pradep Bhattacharjee and SI Tikendrajit Singh rushed to the spot and sent the dead body to Silchar Medical College for postmortem.

Meanwhile, Mangal Rikiyason surrendered with the fatal weapon at Lakhipur Police station. He is now being kept in Lakhipur Police Station. A case has been filed against him in Lakhipur PS and he would be produced to the court on Friday.
