District Court grants bail on Medical ground to Pradip Dutta Roy
Advocate Soumen Choudhury, while arguing Pradip Dutta Roy’s case at the Court of District and Sessions Judge, stated that there is a rise in COVID cases in Silchar and especially within the Silchar Medical College and Hospital. So, his client who is in medical custody is at risk of getting infected.
It is worth mentioning here that Pradip Dutta Roy, who was arrested on November 27 by Cachar Police was sent to Medical Custody on December 3 after Choudhury argued that a Liver Transplant patient needs better medical facilities than what is available in the Silchar Central Jail.
Today, Choudhury based his arguments on the premise that the charges pressed against Pradip Dutta Roy do not stand ground when the complaint is taken into consideration. Having said so, Choudhury added, that eight doctors from SMCH tested positive for COVID19 in two days and therefore, there is a spike in the number of COVID cases. Since Pradip Dutta Roy is a Liver Transplant patient, if he gets infected by COVID, it could risk his life. And so, he pleads for an interim bail till the Police submit the case diary.
For the freshers, there are two cases against Pradip Dutta Roy. One case was filed based on a complaint lodged by Hindu Yuva Parishad where he has been charged under section 124 A (sedition) among others. Then there is another case, where the IC of Tarapur Town Outpost complained that Pradip Dutta Roy assaulted media personnel on November 27. Attempt to murder among other charges has been pressed against him. The court has called for one case diary on December 10 and today asked for a case diary for another case on December 15.
After taking the arguments of advocate Soumen Choudhury on account, the Judge of District and Sessions Court – Cachar, granted Pradip Dutta Roy interim bail on medical grounds. Family sources informed that Pradip Dutta Roy will be shifted from Silchar Medical College and Hospital late tonight or early tomorrow.
