Snatcher gang continue with their money heist; Rs 1.05 lakh snatched from woman outside SBI New Silchar

The money-snatching incidents don’t seem to end in this town. This afternoon another incident took place in front of the infamous State Bank of India, New Silchar branch or as we can call it the “Mecca (Holy Land; in case controversial) of these snatchers”.

Today the victim was an ex-Municipal Commissioner of Ward no. 21, Sancheta Acharjee. While Cachar Police is “busy” cracking the Burmese Supari circuit, the “masked miscreants” have created their heist in the heart of the Silchar town. Like always, two men in Black Pulsar bike, the same bank and the same no solution from the Police.

On February 7, afternoon when Sancheta Bhattacharjee went to State Bank of India’s New Silchar branch to withdraw cash via cheque worth rupees 1 lakh and 5 thousand, she was concerned about getting robbed. An aware and updated Sancheta, with the recent news of such incidents, she requested the bank to provide her security so that she doesn’t have to face the same snatchers. Talking to our correspondent the Congress leader said, “I had the apprehension of such an incident happening and that’s why I requested the cashier in advance to provide me with security while going home. I was asked to talk to the bank guards and they said no vehicle was available to drop me home and hence they can’t provide me security now. Helplessly I asked my son to come and pick me up from the bank, while I waited for him”.

When the Subhash Nagar resident came to the ground floor of the bank with the guards of the bank, that’s where the problem started to begin. Acharjee further added, “On the ground floor I saw a known face of a very trusted brother of mine and asked if he could drop me home on his bike. As he agreed, I thanked the guards and left the bank with him. As the bike started and picked up from the bank, two men came from the opposite side at high speed and snatched my bag full of money. We then tried to chase the bike, they speeded up and went out of our reach”.

This is the sixth such incident that happened this year, the victim blamed the bank and said, “These informers are stationed inside the bank, who notice and identify every person and send information to their gang members outside”. While all these incidents look very planned and done by expert robbers, the question that arises is why such competent police are yet to crack down and bust this gang? Why doesn’t the bank provide security to its customers for whom their banks run? Is there a nexus between someone inside the bank and the gang? There are many loose dots to be connected, while common people get scammed every day.
