Silchar DSA 2nd Division: Sanjeev Roy and Sanjeevan Roy, father and son play the same team
Grant Flower and Andy Flower the Zimbabwean brothers or Irfan and Yusuf Pathan in recent times, the South African Morkel brothers, siblings playing cricket for the same team has been on television sets time and again. It goes back to the days of CK Nayudu and CS Nayudu or even older. But father and son in the same team, well that happens too.
This remarkable benchmark has been created in the cricket ground of India Club in the District Sports Association Silchar’s Second Division Cricket Match on February 8, 2022. Sanjeev Roy and Sanjeevan Roy entered the field wearing whites for Deshabandhu Sporting to play against Udayan Sangha.
Sanjeev aka Chintu was once a big name in local cricket. He was a star player of Barak Valley, who donned the jersey of the District team and represented in various age-category-tournaments. It has been long he retired to join active politics, but his love for the sport remained. He stopped playing cricket but continued to remain in the green oval as an umpire. He has been wearing the umpire’s hat for the last 16 years.
Now, he has created another striking record, inspiring everyone. The right-armed pace all-rounder, along with his son Sanjeevan entered the field to bowl against Udayan Sangha. Both the father and son played a strategic role against the team on strike and took one wicket each.
This was a memorable match in all for the father, who played the division match on Tuesday along with his 16-year-old son. The white jersey donned duo has become an inspiration for many today. It is worth mentioning here that, Sanjeev had last played the super-division league from India Club, 16 years back. Sanjeevan was born in that year, and after 16 long years, Sanjeev has returned to playing cricket and that too with his 16-year-old friend and partner Sanjeevan, who played from the same team with his superstar father and cricketer.
