Police arrests parents on suspect of 19-year-old murder; Digs dead body out of graveyard for investigation

Why would the parents murder their daughter? This is a question that is haunting many in Barak Valley. In Lakhipur’s Shibpur area, the dead body of a 19-year-old was found lying amidst paddy. Her throat was slit, it was clear that she was murdered.

The father pointed fingers towards a boy from Rangirghat. He alleged that the boy proposed to marry his elder daughter which he refused and as an act of vengeance, the boy murdered his younger daughter.

But, upon investigation, the Police found out that the deceased was eight-month pregnant. There was also enough evidence to suggest that it was the parents who murdered the 19-year-old.

Lakhipur Police confirmed that the parents have been arrested and they have recovered a suspected weapon from their residence. The Police officials have also dug the body out of the grave to conduct a further forensic study of the deceased.

It has been learned that the Police will send the samples for DNA test to identify the the father of the unborn child. This case has raised many questions about the manifestation of adolescents, the most vulnerable cohort.
