Karimganj Police arrests fake Assam Rifles Jawan; Case registered, uniform seized

A fake Assam Rifles jawan was arrested from Nilambazar. The resident of Rupargul, Ataur Rahman was arrested on Saturday night by the Nilambazar Police. The arrested individual has been involved in taking advantage of people by playing the army card. He has been fooling many locals of Nilambazar.

While he successfully tricked the locals of the area, it was a step too much for him, when he went for the Police.

A few weeks back, Ataur came to the Nilambazar Police Station and asked a female constable to hand over an arrested woman to him as he wanted to take her into his custody. He said so by claiming to be from Assam Rifles. But due to the caution of the police, he failed in over smarting the police. After that police started tracing him.

On Saturday night, the Nilambazar Police Station’s OC, Suraj Dutta started a search operation for this fake Assam Rifles jawan. Upon reaching his home in Rupargul, the search party found many objectionable garments.

The OC of Nilambazar said, “When we first saw him walking around the thana, we asked him what was he looking for. He said it was regarding a case and addressed him as a jawan of the Assam Rifles. Later when we asked for identification, he failed to produce any ID card. That made us doubtful and we decided to look into this”

“During our search operation, we found pairs of Assam Rifles’ uniform, cap, belt and boots. Accordingly, we filed a case against him and detained him”, the OC further added.

The accused Ataur was brought to the local police station and where he claimed himself to be a hunter gathered, who hunts for squirrels in the jungle and that’s why this costume. His camouflage excuse was not accepted by the police and was detained for further investigation.
