End of speculations: Tamal Kanti Banik becomes president of Cachar Congress
After eight months of high decibel drama, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has announced the name of the president of Cachar District Congress Committee.
Putting an end to all the speculations, the APCC has announced that Tamal Kanti Banik will be the new president of District Congress Committee. Apurba Bhattacharjee, General Secretary (Admin) APCC made the announcement. It was reported widely that Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, Working President of APCC has recommended Banik’s name for the post.
When Bhattacharjee had visited Congress Bhawan in Silchar to chair a town committee meeting, Police had to interfere as a scuffle broke between the party workers. This is the condition of the Congress that Tamal Kanti Banik will take over. Banik was party’s candidate to contest the 2021 Assembly elections and he was defeated by Dipayan Chakraborty of BJP by a record margin.
The party’s state leadership has also announced that Rajat Chakraborty will be the president of Karimganj District Congress Committee. In Hailakandi, Samsuddin Barlaskar has been trusted with the responsibility.
