Team of experts reaches Silchar; “APDCL restoring power phase-wise,” AGM

As it was informed by the chief minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, the team of engineers from Guwahati has reached Silchar, to help in restoration of power after the severe deluge that the city has faced.

We have started the phase wise restoration of power supply in areas where flood water has receded. Today, we have started the power supply in high-rise buildings of Ambikapatty, Premtala, Tarapur, Central Road, Hospital Road,” informed AGM Silchar, APDCL, Arup Paul.

“We are first analysing the risk and then restoring power. What we need to understand at this point in time is several areas of the town are still inundated like Link Road, National Highway, Ambikapatty, Chandmari Road, Bilpar, Public School Road. These areas face the fear of electrocution and power supply can turn out to be fatal that is why we have kept supply disconnected in such areas,” he added.

DAGM informed that department is in a position to restore power throughout the city within five days after the water has fully receded from the residential areas. They also kept into account that Silchar Medical College and Silchar Civil Hospital need uninterrupted power supply at this hour of emergency. And the AGM confirmed that the same is being maintained. PHE in Silchar Medical College and Mational Institute of Technology Silchar are also supplied power whenever necessary.

“This is unprecedented scenario what we are dealing with as the water level rose to a position that no one even expected. Many transformers are still underwater many offices are still under water and so the restoration of electricity is restricted and monitored very carefully by able hands. It is a request to the general public to cooperate with the department and stay assured that the APDCL is doing all in its abilities to make life easier for the residents,” Arup Paul concluded.
