Beating flood-fear, hundreds have gathered to offer Eid-Al-Adha prayers in Silchar

Eid-Al-Adha is an auspicious occasion for the followers of Islam all over the world. It is also the day when the holy pilgrimage of Hajj commemorates in Mecca. On this day, the followers celebrate the willingness to sacrifice.

Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi took on twitter to wish, “Eid Mubarak! Greetings on Eid-ul-Adha. May this festival inspire us to work towards furthering the spirit of collective well-being and prosperity for the good of humankind.”

Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma also wished on the microblogging platform. “Wishing all a blessed #EidulAdha. May peace, love and brotherhood spread all around.”

Cachar district has undergone an unprecedented deluge forcing property losses worth several hundred crores. The impact of that was evident in the markets as the Eid-crowd went missing. According to the ASDMA report, July 9, 2022, more than five lakh people are affected by the floods and around 69,000 inmates are still there in various relief camps away from their houses.

The mood of the district wasn’t “celebration” by any means. The shopkeepers, who also faced severe losses said that the market is worse than what it was during the COVID-scare and the lockdowns.

However, beating the flood-fear hundreds have gathered in Idgahs across the district to offer the Eid-Namaz. The spokesperson of Meherpur Idgah thanked the administration for ensuring security and peace. “Many mosques are still inundated and therefore, the Eid-Namaz could not be performed on those premises. So, some people had to offer prayers on the road. This is something we have witnessed across Barak Valley and we are grateful to the administration for the same,” added the spokesperson.
