Bear attack in Silcoorie is fake news; no need to panic

Since today evening a video with a few photographs are doing rounds in the social media networks. The viral communication claims that a man is brutally attacked by a sloth bear in Silcoorie area. The video shows that local villagers in order to rescue the man attack the bear and kill it on the spot.

This video has been forwarded very rapidly in Silchar and entire Barak Valley, few online publications did a story on it too, we would like to inform you all, this entire communication is fake. A production company named Wild Films India first uploaded the video on YouTube on July 13, 2015. They claim in the description that this video was shot in Itarsi, Madhya Pradesh.

The image of the man who was allegedly attacked by the bear has been lifted from a Dainik Jagaran story (Jangli Bhalu Ne 12 Logo Ko Kata, 2 gambhir click to read). Regional media giant Dainik Jagaran uploaded the story on May 12, 2018. The story is about a wild bear attack in a jungle in Tundi.

BarakBulletin.com too received the video multiple times and people were urging us to upload it immediately. While as a content this entire fake viral story is very compelling but we thought of doing some research first before making it into a story. When we used few research search tools we found out about the distorted facts. We also reached out to Inspector in-charge of several Poilce outposts in Cachar district and all of them told us that they too received the video but have no confirmation on the authenticity of the communication. Inspector in charge of Ghungoor Police outpost SI Shaijaring Chengloi told us that people of Silcoorie have no clue about any such incident and this claim is fake.

Our reporter reached out to the forest department and the spokesperson in a satirical tone said, “Cachar okhon manush sara bhalluk er pise porse kene?” (Why are people of Cachar running after bear) He said, “There was no such attack and this viral video is spreading fake rumours.”

Well they were right, this video and the pictures are all fake and please do not get scared of bear in Cachar.
