Karimganj Police intercepts SUV driving from Mizoram to Tripura; Confiscates heroin worth Rs 20 crore
Karimganj Police in a high-voltage operation managed to confiscate suspected heroin worth Rs 20 crore. Based on a secret tip-off, Additional SP of the District, Partha Protim Das led an operation at the Assam – Tripura bordering region. The intel was that an SUV loaded with suspected banned narcotics was loaded in Mizoram with the intention to smuggle it to Bangladesh through Tripura.
Das and the team of Karimganj Police informed the Customs department too as there was a chance that the vehicle would drive to Tripura which is outside the jurisdiction of the Karimganj Police.
The Police stopped the suspected vehicle and after carrying out the search operation, unearthed the consignment. A total of 194 soap cases were recovered from the secret chambers built at the bottom of the car. If Police sources are to be believed, the consignment weighs around 2.5 kilograms which, as per estimate is worth Rs 20 crores.
The Police refused to share details of the operation as it is still under investigation. Two individuals have been arrested in connection to the alleged case of smuggling. They are Rajal Uddin Talukdar and Zabrul Haque, residents of Hailakandi and Karimganj responsibility.
Police officials believe that residents of Barak Valley are running this nexus sitting out of their offices in Mizoram. They use Barak Valley as the gateway to safely smuggle the items to Bangladesh where they get high value. This international nexus causes harm to the younger generations as they get lured into the illegal trap because of the easy and big money involved.
It is worth mentioning here that Karimganj Police has been actively foiling the attempts of these international nexuses. Yesterday, the chief minister of Assam lauded the efforts of the Police formation led by SP Padmanabh Baruah for their efforts in nabbing Ganja worth 17 crores. Karimganj Police also issued a statement a few days back informing about the arrest of Imad – an alleged kingpin in the drug smuggling racket.
