First poison then panacea; Bale’s stunner completes Real’s Champions league hat trick
Another final defeat for Jürgen Klopp, historical moment for Zinedine Zidane, Real Madrid becomes first club in the history of European football to win the Champions League three consecutive times. Madrid must be already waiting to welcome the champions with a grand guard of honour.
The match that football fans around the world was eagerly waiting for; the match that promised to be an exhibition of attacking football actually had a sorry start. Before it could even start it hit a roadblock. One of the biggest artiste of modern football, England’s player of the year, Egyptian Mohamad Salah was forced off the field. The lethal forward unfortunately dislocated his shoulder in a coming together with Spaniard Sergio Ramos in the 30th minute. If Liverpool lost its silk in Salah, just seven minutes later Madrid lost its strength. Full back Dani Carvajal too limped off the field after hurting his achilles (heel). Playing in the Champions League final is what all professional players dream while growing up and to walk off injured in the first half itself is one of the most devastating feelings and that was visible in the reaction of both the players. They were crying their heart out while walking off through the tunnel. The first half only had a disallowed offside goal from Madrid and sad teary scenes for 61,000 plus spectators in the stadia.
Second half, the poetry on the football field began, the passes had panache and poison seamlessly transformed to panacea. Liverpool goalkeeper, Loris Kairus in one of the most bizarre manner threw the ball to opponent striker Karim Benzema’s feet standing a few inches away. The ball deviated by the French number nine’s boot rolled to the back of net. Kairus was left sad and sorry till Sadio Mane cancelled Madrid’s lead. Just four minutes later Senegalese forward kicked the ball to the back of the net from a corner kick to bring the English side right back in the game.
61st minute of the match manager Zinedine Zidane substituted Isco to send in Wales man and star footballer Gerath Bale. What a masterstroke it was from the gaffer, just two minutes later Bale scored a stunner to bring Real Madrid back in front. The top-corner by-cycle kick finish would go down as one of the best Champions League goal of all time. 82nd minute he scored another one to put the game into bed and create history.
