Silchar DSA's Inter School Cricket tournament from Nov 19; 2-day format in Semifinals, Final

The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) is now organizing two-day matches even at the junior level of inter-district cricket. Almost all the tournaments are in a two-day format. Keeping an eye on that, the District Sporting Association (DSA), Silchar has also taken up a new plan. The 22nd Baidyanath Nath Memorial Inter-School Prize Money Cricket Tournament is starting from November 19. This tournament is going to be held at the under-15 level for the schools in the district.

Amidst the two years of the COVID Pandemic, the DSA Silchar organized the school tournament in the T20. But this time, the tournament will be organised in the ODI Format. The matches will be of 25 overs each. It is noteworthy that DSA has decided to organize the two semi-finals and the final match of school cricket in a two-day format this year with an eye on inter-district cricket. This format is being followed as per the revised format of the ACA.

All the matches of this tournament will be played at the India Club ground. However, the two semi-finals and the final may be played at the SM Dev Stadium. The prize money of the tournament has also increased compared to the last two years. Since 2001, Jugasankha Newspaper Group has been sponsoring this prestigious tournament. This is the first prize money tournament in the history of Barak Valley in this format.

Niranjan Das, the Cricket Secretary of the Silchar DSA said, a four-member committee has been formed to select players for the tournament. The members are Deben Shuklabaidya, Ranju Chanda, Dipankar Dev and Biplab Sharma Purkayastha. The DSA also plans to organize a camp in the future with the talents selected from this upcoming tournament.
