Finally Cachar court releases 103 year old Bangladesh refugee Unomoti Biswas

A heart breaking scene- 103 year old Unomati Bala Biswas comes out of jail by holding her 60 year old sons’ hand. The scene of coming out of the Silchar Central Jail was witnessed by many people with hysterical tears in their eyes.

For the last one year, the prison was their home. They were sent to jail for illegally entering India from Bangladesh.

In a verdict given on Monday by the first class magistrate Shrimati Rupashree Dev, both of them were allowed to stay in India under the Refugee Notification. That verdict was executed today.

Unomati Bala Biswas and Radhika Biswas alias Dhatu Biswas were staying in Malugram area after coming from Bangladesh. Both of them hailed from Sylhet District’s Boro Sheora Village, Bangladesh (PS Jagganathpur). On 25th May, 2017 police arrested both of them for illegally trespassing to India from Bangladesh at Silchar Malugam Sarbodaya School premises.

Lawyer Ranju Dev fought their case. Advocate Deb’s main argument was that both of them i.e. Unoumati Bala Devi and Dhatu Biswas came from Bangladesh due to religious persecution. So according to the 2015 Refugee Notification, they deserved to get refuge. Justice Shrimati Rupashree Dev agreed to their staying in India on humanitarian grounds.
Accordingly both of them were released today from the Silchar Central Jail. In an interview with our correspondent, Unomati Biswas told us that they will stay at Silchar Govinda Ashram and they don’t know what will they do later. Her son Shri Radhika Biswas told that he is interested to go back to Bangladesh because his children and other family members are living there.

Looking at the their future are thousands of such refugees who are still interested in living in this country. Only the future will be able to tell the exact address of their future.
