Cachar MMS Scandal: Police arrests ex-boyfriend, "Matter is still under investigation," SP
A few days back, a female resident of Cachar district appeared on Social media pleading before the netizens to refrain from sharing videos that were filmed featuring her in a compromised situation. Those obscene videos kept spreading and she continued to live a difficult life amidst the MMS scandal.
Eventually, she went on to lodge an FIR at Silchar Sadar Police Station and the officials launched an investigation.
On December 28, the Cachar Police team managed to trace one individual identified as Ubaid Mehdi. If Police sources are to be believed, Mehdi is a twentysomething resident of Nilambazar area in Karimganj district. Police sources also informed that there is a possibility of more arrests in connection to the MMS scandal. Karimganj resident, Mehdi was arrested from ISBT in Ramnagar.
As it turns out, those were consensual moments of intimacy between Ubaid Mehdi and the Cachar resident belonging to a different community. Both of them were in a relationship when the videos were filmed. In the videos, only the female resident could be spotted in the frame while the male remained behind the camera. After their break up, the videos were made viral as an act of revenge.
Cachar SP, Numal Mahatta is keeping a close eye on the investigation considering the sensitivity of the case. “They were in a relationship and those videos were made viral. There is criminality involved in this case ” stated SP Cachar.
Since the Aftab Poonawalla and Shraddha Walker case came to light, the discussions around Love-Jihad got rekindled in India. SP Mahatta, however, believes it would be too premature to link this case to Love-Jihad at this stage as the matter is still under investigation.
