Two accidents, two deaths in same night in Cachar; Tipper set ablaze in Udharbond, motorcycle ran over 12-year-old in Kashipur
Two fatal road accidents took place in Cachar district on Monday. Suhail Ahmed Laskar died after a speeding loaded tipper collided with his car head-on on the Udharband Highway. On the other hand, 12-year-old Nur Hossain Majumder was hit by a speeding motorcycle on Assam-Manipur National Highway.
Laskar was allegedly hit by a dumper, speeding towards him from the opposite direction, while he was on his way back home in his Maruti Swift. The accident took place in Udharband’s Pacnh Mile area. Laskar was rescued by the locals. However, he died on his way to Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
His death agitated the locals, who vandalized and set the dumper ablaze. Soon after, Cachar SP Numal Mahatta, with a large troop of police personnel, reached the spot and brought the situation under control. However, the angry locals alleged that such illegally loaded dumpers are causing regular accidents in the area. It should be mentioned here that the deceased, Suhail Ahmed Laskar, happened to be an active member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The other incident took place near the Kashipur CRPF camp on the Assam-Manipur National Highway. 12-year-old Nur Hossain Majumder was hit by a speeding motorcycle with the registration number: AS 10D 7163. The motorcycle rider, along with the locals, immediately rescued Nur and took him to Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
Majumdar was later declared dead by the doctors at SMCH. Reportedly, the motorcycle driver fled away secretly after Nur’s death was declared.
