The winter season is coming to an end within a month or two but it looks like the cold weather has climaxed in Silchar as the city recorded it’s lowest temperature in the last 25 years on Thursday. Although many Silcharians believe that they didn’t experience much cold this season as compared to the previous year (2021-2022) yet the mercury dropped down comparatively more during this winter (2022-2023).
As per the manual reading of Cachar College Meteorological Center, Silchar, the temperature touched 9 degrees celsius at 6 am in the morning. According to the automatic reading by “Oiko-Hub” at Assam University, Silchar, the temperature was 9.4 degrees celsius at 5:30 am, 9.3 degrees celsius at 6:30 am and 9.9 degrees celsius at 7:30 am in the morning.
As per the data, 9°C was last recorded around the year 1998 thus making it the coldest day in Silchar after 25 long years.
Commenting on the temperature noted Professor and former Head of Ecology and Environmental Science Department, Assam University, Parthankar Choudhury told our correspondent, “Although the temperature dropped down to near about 9°C, but it didn’t continue for hours together. The chilling effect was not felt, as by that time, many of the netizens didn’t come out of blankets.”
