GP Singh to become new DGP of Assam
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today made an announcement that Special DGP GP Singh will become the next Director General of Police (DGP) of Assam replacing Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta who will retire after the completion of his tenure in two days.
Speaking to reporters about the new appointment, Sarma said “Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta will retire in two days. Special DGP GP Singh will replace him as the next DGP of Assam. I believe that GP Singh will execute rest of the recruitment process and perform his sacred duties as the new DGP of the state.” The CM made this announcement while distributing appointment letters to family members of victims of terrorist violence at a function.
Referring to the families that got effected due to terrorist violence the CM said “I would like to specially thank the current DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta as he took the intiative to reconnect with the families in his tenure of 1.5 years.”
Meanwhile tweeting about his new appointment GP Singh wrote “With the blessings of Maa Kamakhya, I look forward to the opportunity of serving the people of Assam. Gratitude to the Honourable Chief minister Assam for reposing trust in me to lead the glorious Assam Police. @assampolice @CMOfficeAssam”
