Assam Pradesh Congress holds meeting with editors and senior journalists of print and electronic media of Barak Valley

Assam Pradesh Congress (APCC) President Bhupen Borah held a meeting at Silchar Circuit House on Wednesday with the editors as well as senior journalists of print and electronic media today. The Congress leadership had to face various questions from the journalists in the meeting.

Responding to reporters’ questions about Sushmita Dev leaving the party, Bhupen Borah said that if Sushmita wants to join the party again, she will have to accept the primary membership of Congress. He could not give any concrete answer as to why the names of party candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections was announced so early. North Karimganj MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, Barak’s Congress In-Charge Apurba Bhattacharjee and others were present in the meeting. Borah distributed leaflets in various shops of the city to make the Hath Se Hath Joro Yatra a success.

Addressing reporters in the meeting APCC President Borah said, “We invited editors and senior journalists of Print and Electronic Media of Barak Valley to take their suggestions. The editors of Bengali newspapers and senior journalists attended the meeting. We wanted to take suggestions from them regarding Hath Se Hath Jodo Yatra, our moral obligation as the opposition party in the state and if we have fulfilled or failed to perform that obligation, the consciousness of Barak Valley people and the duties they want us to perform. I’m pleased to share that all the senior journalists of Barak Valley gave us suggestions, criticised us as well as commended us. I believe that from today’s meeting Assam Pradesh Congress Committee has gained a lot.”

Speaking about the budget, Borah said, “Last year also the government couldn’t spend majority of the funds allocated from the budget. In this budget the govt. has spoken about fund allocation in agricultural sector, MGNREGA, health sector, education sector for pleasing the public but so much money has not been allocated in the budget. A govt. which can’t spend the allocated funds in a budget is a govt. which runs behind electoral popularity and newspaper headlines failing to fulfill the aspirations of the people.”
