Malin Sharma Khabar Heroes and Karimganj Media Challengers meet in the final of BUKSS Media Cricket

Karimganj Media Challengers and Malin Sharma Khabar Heroes made it to the finals of this year’s Media Cricket Fest organised by Barak Valley Sports Journalists Association, BUKSS. As these two teams won today’s semi-final, they will rival each other in the final match which will be held under flood lights at the District Sports Association (DSA) ground tomorrow on Sunday. The matches till the semis were of 15 overs but the final match will be of 20 overs.

On Saturday morning, Karimganj Media Challengers beat Shivdurga Media Panthers by 9 wickets in the first semi-final match. In the first innings, Shivdurga went to bat first and scored 77 runs in 15 overs losing 8 wickets. No player was able to put up a good score. Apart from Debashis Das’ 21 runs and Shivashis Bhattacharjee’s 15 runs, no other player could reach double figures. Abhijit Paul and Amirul Siddiqui got 3 wickets each. In the second innings, Karimganj Media Challengers played only 8.2 overs and lost 1 wicket thereby chasing the required runs. The team’s captain scored 50 runs off 30 balls. Nabendu Malakar scored 16 runs off 19 balls. Shivam Dutta got the only wicket.

The second semi-final of the day was quite thrilling as Malin Sharma Khabar Heroes defeated Hailakandi News Rockers by 20 runs. Batting first, Malin Sharma Khabar Heroes scored 120 runs for 6 wickets in 15 overs. Among the best batsmen, Anirban Roy Choudhury scored 52 runs off 32 balls. Bishal Das scored 36 runs off 31 balls. Nirupom Das scored 10 runs off 7 balls. Pintu Suklabaidya took 3 wickets giving 36 runs.

In response, the Hailakandi team managed to score 100 runs after losing 8 wickets in 15 overs. Mandeep Malakar scored 25 runs and Nilmani Choudhury scored 19 runs for the team.

In this match Ahadul Ahmed Laskar’s 3 wickets and Raju Nath’s 2 wickets alongwith three unique catches on the boundary line by Vishal Das helped Malin Sharma Khabar Heroes win. Anirban Roy Choudhury became the Man of the Match with his exceptional innings of 52 runs consisting of 6 boundaries and 2 sixes in 32 balls. Besides, he took 1 wicket in 3 overs giving 17 runs.
