Marvelous Udiyan Bose hands Hailakandi a majestic win over Barak Bulletin Strikers to win BPL 6

The iconic Satindra Mohan Dev Memorial Stadium was lit up once again with the expectation of quality cricket, something that the people of Barak Valley crave. It was the final of the Silchar Veteran’s Cricketers’ Club organised Barak Premier League. Crowds had gathered in large numbers to witness the match between Barak Bulletin Strikers and Hailakandi CRAC Gladiators.

Strikers defeated the favourites of the tournament Novortius XI in the Semi Final and brought the momentum to the final. Winning the toss, Gladiators decided to bat first. Barak Bulletin Strikers got off to a flying start as their skipper Samik Das picked two wickets in two balls to send captain Krishnendu Deb and in-form, Karan Sharma back to the dugout. Hailakandi CRAC Gladiators were under pressure and walked in the magical Udiyan Bose. With Manishankar Murasingh struggling for form, Udiyan Bose was going to be the deciding factor.

Bose took a couple of overs to set in his eye and after than made it the Udiyan Bose show. He played 55 balls to score a century. It is not just the runs, the way he scored them also broke the morale of the experienced Barak Bulletin Strikers team. His century had 12 sixes and two fours. Apart from him, Bishal Ghosh scored 17 of 19, Murasingh scored 19 of 24 and Shubam Ghosh ended it all with a six-ball 16-run innings.

The gladiators had set a target of 172 runs for the Barak Bulletin Strikers to win. The team needed a brisk start in the powerplay but the Gladiators’ bowlers did not allow any momentum to the chasing team. Captain Samik Das and Aman Singh struggled for runs throughout the tournament and the final was no different. Das went to the dugout for 2 after facing 10 balls and Aman Singh scored 7 out of 13. Star of the semifinal, Shuvam Dey scored 7 and his dismissal followed by a duck from Parvez Aziz in the same over, took the match away from the Strikers.

Walked in next Raihan Jomeel Mazumdar also struggled for form, as he scored 3 runs in 12 balls. The required run rate became a mountain too steep to climb and the Strikers crumbled under the avalanche. The final fight was over when Sandipan Das got dismissed for 11 runs after playing 14 balls. Shubam Sarkar was next to follow to the dugout for 20 after playing 16 balls. The Barak Bulletin Strikers were all out for 72 in the big final and that too after playing only 14 overs.

Udiyan Bose was adjudged the man of the match, the man of the series, and best batter of the tournament for his outstanding performances throughout the tournament. Shubam Sarkar won the most valuable player of the tournament award.
