Tripura Police seals interstate borders before elections, Restriction on regular vehicular traffic movement along Assam-Tripura border
The 2023 Legislative Assembly elections is scheduled to be held in the North Eastern state of Tripura on February 16, 2023 to elect all 60 members of the Tripura Legislative Assembly. After polling, the counting of votes will take place on March 2 to determine the winning MLAs as well as which party forms the next state government. On March 2, the results of Meghalaya and Nagaland Legislative Assembly elections will also be declared.
In view of the upcoming legislative assembly elections in Tripura, the Tripura Police has sealed the interstate borders of the state due to security reasons for the next three days. As Karimganj district shares interstate border with Tripura, hence the Tripura Police has also requested Assam Police to curtail vehicular movement of Assam civilians to Tripura.
Speaking to reporters about the new development, Karimganj SP Padmanabh Baruah said, “Tripura will go for elections on February 16. The Tripura Police has informed us that they have sealed the interstate borders for security reasons and for preventing manipulation. As Karimganj shares interstate border with Tripura, hence the Tripura Police has requested us to reduce regular vehicular movement along the Assam-Tripura border for the next three days till the elections are conducted.”
The SP added, “The commercial vehicles, emergency vehicles as well as vehicles belonging to locals of Tripura can ply freely along the interstate border without any restriction in their movement.”
