Locals demand flyover in Ramnagar as railway line divides village
The people living on both sides of the railway track, separating Ramnagar Berakhali from Topkhana, along the Silchar-Kalain road, are facing daily risks while crossing the railway track. The situation has caused inconvenience for students attending schools and colleges on both sides, as well as those visiting temples and mosques. The locals have been requesting the railway authorities to build a flyover for a long time, but their appeals have been ignored.
On Saturday morning, the locals and students staged a protest, warning that if their demands are not met within the one month then they will resort to large scale protests by democratic means.
Among those taking part in the demonstration were Topkhana GP Chairman Miya Khan, AP member Josim Uddin, teacher at Topkhana LP School Jabed Hussain, Naina Das, Riyazul Barbhuiya. Other protestors included Hasan Ahmed Mazarbhuiya, Hazi Kutub Uddin, Nazrul Haque, Bacchu Das, Putul Chandra Das, Rongid Das, and H. Promoy Singh.
Speaking to reporters a protestor said, “We have to cross the railway line for going to schools and colleges. The railway authorities have bariccaded the road now hence we have to travel an extra 5-7 kms via E&D Colony to reach Zilkadar School. The ISBT is located just 1 km away from here but if we take the alternative route then we have to travel around 6-7 kms. Hence we request the Railway authority, MLA, MP, DC and CM to make alternative arrangements for us so that we don’t face any inconvenience.”
