On Wednesday tragedy struck on the Silchar-Aizawl National Highway No. 306, as a scooty and a KTM motorcycle collided head-on in Narsingpur, resulting in the death of one person and critical injuries to two others.
The accident occurred at around 4:20 pm, just 100 meters away from the Narsingpur petrol pump. Sukhendu Nath, a 45-year-old resident of Narsingpur Part I, Nagdirgram GP, lost his life on the spot, while two other Manipuri youths involved in the crash were rescued by locals and rushed to Silchar Medical and Hospital (SMCH).

The two vehicles involved in the accident were later recovered and taken to the Palanghat Police Outpost by police officials. Meanwhile, Sonai OC M Manas Sandikoi, who was on patrolling duty for Holi, also reached the spot.
According to locals, many people rode bikes in a drunken state during the festival, and this accident may have occurred due to the influence of alcohol.
In a separate incident, an accident also occurred at Jhulanpool on the Kabuganj Amraghat road, but fortunately, there were no major injuries due to the presence of sand.
The incident on the Silchar-Aizawl National Highway serves as a tragic reminder of the importance of responsible driving, particularly during festive periods when accidents are known to occur.
