Calcutta Flower Decorator's proprietor injured in yesterday's roadside clash, asks police to catch culprits instead of his colleague

A minor incident turned into a violent clash at Silchar Central Road on the day of Holi, leaving Dipankar Ghosh, proprietor of Calcutta Flower Decorator, bleeding on the middle of the road.

Eyewitnesses report that the scuffle broke out between two groups over a road crossing, which was eventually stopped by the police at the metro bazar point. However, chaos broke out again after the police left, with young boys hurling verbal abuses and later engaging in physical fights. The incident took place at the Old Annapurna Cinema Hall Point located on Silchar Central Road.

Speaking about yesterday’s incident Dipankar Ghosh told reporters, “I was closing my shop at that time. A staff of my shop named Kalam was crossing the road and coming towards my shop. At that time three youths in a scooty came in front of Kalam on the road and started a scuffle with him. I went towards them for pacifying the situation but they were keen on attacking him. At that moment the police and army came and the youths ran away fearing the police. They again came after some time and beat me and Kalam. They punched me in the lips and eye.”

He added, “Currently I’m under treatment as I met with an accident a few days back and might be out of station tomorrow for treatment. Astonishingly, the police didn’t take action against those youths and instead detained Kalam for the whole night at the Police station. They haven’t released him yet. I don’t know the identity of the three youths. I would request the police to catch the culprits involved and find out why they attacked us.”
