Police open fire in Badarpur, public outrage causes tension; "Requesting public to not spread rumours," SP Karimganj

Tension mounted in Badarpur after Police opened fire today evening. According to available information, one Rahul Ahmed, a resident of Badarpur who has a case against him was not cooperating in an ongoing Police investigation. Rahul Ahmed had created a nuisance at a store and the incident got reported to the Badarpur Police Station.

As the prime accused of the incident, the Police summoned him through notice (41) on several occasions, and as per Police sources, he has refused to visit the Police station instead, complained to the Superintendent of Police against OC Badarpur, Chandan Goswami.

Today, OC Chandan Goswami and his team went to detain Rahul Ahmed. According to Police sources, when Ahmed saw the Police officials, he snatched a butcher’s knife from a meat shop in Badarpur Bazar Chowrangee and attempted to attack the Police officials. Officer in Charge of Badarpur Police Station, ordered Police to open controlled fire in the air to bring the situation under control. Eventually, the Police officials managed to detain Rahul Ahmed.

However, the locals got irked as the Police officials dared to open fire at a busy place like Badarpur Bazar. The locals gathered and launched a protest by blocking the main road. The locals continue their protests, and many demand action against OC Badarpur, Chandan Goswami.

Speaking with Barak Bulletin, SP Karimganj, Partha Protim Das said, “We are looking into the incident and the DSP himself is visiting the spot. Requesting public to not spread rumours. Police is doing their duty to maintain the law and order situation.”
