
Silchar's Sooraj Goala wins All India Senior Ranking Badminton tournament doubles with his partner Prithvi Roy
Great news for sports lovers of Silchar. Sooraj Goala of Silchar became the men’s doubles champion in Yonex Sunrise All India Senior Ranking Badminton. Prithvi Roy was Sooraj’s partner in the tournament organised in Bahadurgarh, Haryana. In the final, Sooraj and Prithvi won the title by a margin of 15-21, 21-18, 21-12. They defeated Nitin-Pratik duo.
Sooraj-Prithvi duo lost the first game in the competitive final. But they made a come back. They won the championship by winning two consecutive games with a great fight. Earlier, Sooraj-Prithvi duo defeated Manjit-Dingku duo by 23-21, 21-17 in the semi-final. Sooraj becoming the senior ranking badminton champion at the national level is a great news for Silchar sports. This is the biggest success in Sooraj’s career so far.
Earlier in 2018, Sooraj teamed up with Anshuman Gogoi to win bronze in the under-17 national ranking badminton. In the same year, Sooraj and Angshuman participated in the under 17 tournament in Myanmar. In 2016, Sooraj became the under 15 state champion for the first time.
