Mudlslide on Shillong Road disrupts Silchar - Guwahati vehicular traffic
It is again this time of the year when the Silchar – Guwahati commuters face the wrath of nature. At the entry point of the Sonapur tunnel while driving from Silchar to Shillong, there is a huge mudslide that occurred earlier today.
“Important Alert: There has been Mudslide at Sonapur Tunnel on NH06 which occured this morning of 27/05/2023. The Road near the Tunnel is currently blocked, but efforts are underway to clear the same. Commuters are advised to be alert,” tweeted Meghalaya Police from its official handle.

The East Jaintia Hills administration has already mobilised excavators to clear the debris and restore vehicular traffic.
It is worth mentioning here that similar mudslide-induced disruption to vehicular traffic was witnessed last summer as well. This results in humongous discomfort to the commuters. Each time there is a landslip on the Shillong road, the airfare skyrockets too owing to the surge in demand.
It is at these hours of pain, the people of South Assam realise the importance of Mahasadak via Haflong which remains incomplete for decades. But the men in power seldom travel navigating mudslides and so for them, ‘Sab Changa Si’!!!
