Silchar - Guwahati Road: After clearing debris at war footing, two-way traffic restored

“The debris from the Mudslide that occurred at Sonapur Tunnel on NH06 have been cleared and two way traffic movement is now open. Commuters are however advised not to overtake as this will only delay traffic movement for all. Stay Safe & Drive Carefully,” informed the Meghalaya Police.

After nearly seven hours of struggle, the Silchar-Guwahati National Highway had initially reopened for one way vehicular traffic.

The landslide occurred infront of the Sonapur tunnel in the early hours of the morning and caused thousands of vehicles to be trapped on both sides of the National Highway.

Speaking to our correspondent the Abhilash Baranwal, DC, East Jaintia Hills, said, “The mudslide was first reported by Police at 9 am. Immediately NHAI was informed and earth movers were mobilised. By 12 PM traffic was restored partially.”
