Hailakandi and Karimganj DC issue revised timings for schools due to heatwave
In response to the prevailing heatwave in Assam, the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of Hailakandi and Karimganj have issued orders today revising the school timings for both government and private schools. Effective from June 5, 2023, the revised timings aims to prioritise the well-being and safety of students by minimising their exposure to extreme heat during school hours.
The decision to alter school timings comes after the Department of School Education in Assam granted DCs the authority to determine school schedules based on weather conditions. Considering the high temperatures experienced recently in Hailakandi and Karimganj, the DCs of both the districts took immediate action to address the issue.
The revised school timings for both government and private run schools in Hailakandi and Karimganj districts are as follows:
Lower Primary: 7:30 am to 12:15 pm
Upper Primary: 7:30 am to 12:45 pm
High Schools/Higher Secondary Schools: 7:30 am to 1:15 pm
By advancing the start of school hours and adjusting the end times accordingly, the authority aims to minimise students’ exposure to the scorching heat during peak hours of the day. This adjustment will ensure that students have a more comfortable and safe learning environment while attending classes.
With the rising concerns about heat-related illnesses and the need to protect the health of students, the decision to revise school timings has been widely appreciated.
