Suspicious death of an old man in Hailakandi; police interrupted burial, sent body for post mortem

A suspicious death of an old man has created a lot of chaos in Hailakandi’s Dolcherra village. The deceased is identified as Abdul Samad Laskar. The locals feel that the man died sometime last night but the dead body was only seen today in the morning.

The family of the deceased wanted to proceed with the formalities of last rites and bury the body portraying it as a natural death. The locals intervened and informed local police station, the police then came to the spot and sent the body for postmortem. The family did not inform anybody in the neighbourhood about Abdul Samad’s death and tried to finish the last rites keeping everyone in the dark. The locals however got to know about the death and joined the family in conducting the last rituals. While giving shower to the dead body few noticed some unusual aspects which made them question the cause of death. The family maintained that Abdul Samad died a natural death, this explanation did not satisfied many and they went ahead and informed the police station.

Magistrate Madhumita Nath and officer in charge of Lala police station Monirul Islam rushed to the spot and interrogated the family which head Abdul Samad’s wife, one daughter and three minors. After initial investigation police is suspecting that Abdul did not die a natural death however they refused to speculate or draw conclusions, instead they said that the postmortem report will clear all doubts.

The eyewitnesses feel that Abdul was intentionally murdered and the family tried to hide all of that.
