Silchar MLA visits Panchayat Road, assures Rs 5 lakh for the Masjid, appeals to maintain peace

Today evening, MLA of Silchar, Dipayan Chakraborty visited Panchayat Road where tension has been mounting since morning following a communal clash between the two communities. MLA Chakraborty wished “Eid Mubarak” to the locals there and condemned the untoward incident that occurred in the morning.

At the very beginning, he clarified that the Police are investigating the matter and will ensure justice. While he distanced himself from the legal proceedings, the MLA said he would like to sit with both parties and solve the matter amicably.

Speaking with Barak Bulletin, MLA Dipayan Chakraborty said, “As per the direction of the Honourable Chief Minister of Assam, I have visited the spot where some tension broke in the morning. I have assured them that the Police are investigating the matter and justice will be served to both parties while the culprits found guilty will be booked. Police will do their job but let us all maintain peace and tranquility is what I appealed to the people there.”

MLA Chakraborty has also announced that a sum of Rs 5 lakh will be sanctioned for the Panchayat Road, Jame Masjid committee to build a community hall that can be utilized for productive activities or educational purposes.

The local residents of Panchayat Road lauded the efforts put in by Dipayan Chakraborty, MLA of Silchar in order to restore peace and tranquility in the area. “The MLA has sanctioned a fund of Rs 50,000 from his side for immediate work at the Masjid and his gesture today gave us a lot of assurance. We are grateful to the MLA for extending his concerns and support and at the same time, for putting efforts to restore brotherhood,” said a local resident who was present during the visit of the elected representative.

“I will meet them again and engage in dialogues with both the communities to ensure peace and tranquility are maintained in Silchar,” concluded, Chakraborty.
