DSA Elections: VP candidate hopeful of victory, "I have been associated with the field since three decades": Mridul Mazumdar
He has been the General Council Member of Silchar District Sports Association since 22 years. However, his relationship with the field is earlier than that. He has been associated with the field since more than three decades. He currently holds the responsibility of Vice-President (Other) of the Working Association and in the last four years he has handled his duties successfully. He is experienced sports organiser Nilav Majumder and is known as Mridul Da to everyone. Majumder once again presented his claim for the post of Vice President of Silchar District Sports Association.
Sunday is the association’s Biennial General Meeting. Mridul Majumder said that in the last four years he has successfully fulfilled all the responsibilities assigned to him. However, some unfinished business remains. To complete them, he wants to return to the same position in the new working committee. Susongkar Roy is Mridul Majumder’s opponent for the post of Vice President. The ruling party is supporting Mridul Majumder. He himself is associated with the BJP but that is not his real identity on the field. His true identity in sports is that he is a skilled organiser. It is noteworthy that Majumder’s opponent Susongkar Roy is also associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party but he got a place in the panel of the opposition camp led by Babul Hore. Therefore, the fight for the post of Vice-President will be between representatives of the same political party.
However, Mridul Majumder does not see the matter in this way. He said, “Look, I have been associated with the field since the last three decades and have been General Council Member of District Sports Association since the last 22 years. I have been the President of Classmate Union and Nabarun Library for almost two decades. So this is my real identity in sports.”
Majumder also said, “Even if both are from the same party, it will not be a factor. I am optimistic about winning. I believe the members of the association will bless me judging by my contribution to the world of sports.” He resolved that he will give special emphasis on the development of indoor infrastructure if voted to power. He said, “I will try to install badminton mats if I win. I will also emphasise for infrastructure development. The state-wise ranking tournament will be held next month. So I will emphasise on successfully organising that tournament.” Not stopping here, he also said, “The biggest challenge for me will be to bring talent from rural areas in athletics. Because there is a lot of talent in rural areas. But those talents are not being developed due to lack of adequate opportunities. We have set up an academy in Srikona to bring out talent in volleyball. I will pay special attention to the talent of rural areas through that academy.”
The present working committee of the District Sports Association had formed the Players Welfare Fund to help the players financially. Mridul Majumder made a special contribution to raise money for that fund. He was appointed as the Chairman of the Welfare Fund by the association to raise a fund through donation coupons. Under his leadership, the officials of the association collected 10 lakh rupees for that fund. Majumder represented Silchar DSA in the Annual General Meeting of the Assam Athletic Association recently. Not only did he represent, but also made a strong demand to appoint an athletics coach in that meeting.
