Massive Drug Bust in Silchar: Assam Police Seizes Drugs Worth Rs 45 Crore, Arrests Three, opens fire

In a major breakthrough in the fight against illicit drug trafficking, a team led by the DIG (Special Task Force) of Assam Police successfully confiscated drugs worth Rs 45 crore in a late-night raid at Ramnagar Bypass in Silchar.

Acting on a confidential tipoff, the Police initiated the operation and intercepted a Maruti Suzuki Presso bearing registration number AS11 T 8283. During the subsequent search, a substantial quantity of illicit substances was recovered.

The seizure included 2.5 kilograms of suspected heroin and a staggering one lakh YABA tablets, dealing a significant blow to the drug smuggling network in the region.

Commending the united efforts of all stakeholders across different districts of the state, DIG (STF) Partha Sarathi Mahanta emphasized the criticality of timely interventions in such cases. He stated, “The success of this operation underscores the importance of swift action. Had we received the information later, our efforts to thwart the drug smuggling attempt might have been in vain.”

The DIG (STF) also praised the Cachar Superintendent of Police (SP) Numal Mahatta and his team for their dedicated efforts in preventing drug trafficking.

Following the raid, three individuals were arrested in connection with the case. However, during their escort to the Police Station, one of the suspects attempted to flee. In order to prevent his escape, the Police resorted to firing, targeting the suspect’s legs. He was injured but is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital.

The Assam Police’s resolute stance against drug cartels sends a stern warning to criminals involved in illegal narcotics trade and reaffirms their commitment to safeguarding the well-being of the community.
