Briefing the press about the incident, Registrar of NIT Silchar, Dr. KL Baishnab said, “The incident has come to our notice and a committee has been formed to investigate the matter internally and produce a report at the earliest. Based on the report, we will take strict action against the people involved in the unfortunate incident.”

The registrar added, “What I have gathered so far is that the students suspected that the three mess workers have stolen items. Even if they have, the students do not have the rights to assault or torture anyone. They could have informed the higher authority about the same and we would have looked into the matter.”

It was seen on the video that the security guards were playing the role of the spectators when the students were wreaking havoc inside the Hostel. Reacting on the same, Registrar said, “The security guards have been appointed to ensure safety of the people. If they witnessed the torture to human beings unfolding in front of their eyes, actions will be taken against them.”

Police Administration and NIT’s Internal authority are parallelly investigating the matter. This comes after a few students gathered and tortured three mess workers inside Hostel number 9.
