Newly constructed Sadarghat Bridge turns into nightmare for passengers due to potholes, Congress threatens agitation if not repaired in a week

What was once hailed as a symbol of progress and connectivity has now turned into a perilous ordeal for commuters, as the newly constructed Sadarghat Bridge grapples with neglect and emerging potholes. The bridge, inaugurated with much fanfare just three years ago by former CM Sarbananda Sonowal before the 2021 Assam Assembly Elections, has quickly deteriorated with increasing potholes, posing a significant risk to passengers and drivers who traverse it daily.

The sorry state of the bridge has led to increasing difficulties for vehicles, causing a surge in traffic jams that exacerbate the woes of the common people. Despite mounting concerns from the public, the District Administration appears to have turned a deaf ear to their plight.

The situation has prompted the Silchar Youth Congress to issue a stern ultimatum, threatening large-scale protests if the bridge is not repaired within a week. Speaking out against the perceived negligence, Raja Laskar, the General Secretary of Assam Pradesh Youth Congress, criticized the bridge’s construction, claiming it was more of a political publicity stunt than a genuine effort to benefit the public. Addressing reporters he said, “I feel that a bridge made of thermocol is better than this one. If the bridge is not repaired within a week, then we will ourselves repair the potholes and protest in large numbers.”
