Disrespect of national flag at Lakhipur school, tied to the pipe of a water tank
An incident of disrespecting the national flag has come to light at a school in Lakhipur. As per reports, the national flag at 1605 No. Nayabasti Hindi Primary School under Lakhipur Education block is kept hoisted day and night. The national flag has been tied to the pipe of a water tank in the school since the last few days and it is hanging there day and night without any apparent reason. The flag got damaged in the heavy sun and rain but the school authorities have not paid any attention to the situation. The incident has caused a sensation in the local circle with many wondering the reason behind it.
The Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971 is an Act of the Parliament of India which prohibits any insult or violation to the country’s National symbol which includes the National Flag, National Anthem, The Indian Constitution and The Map of India.
This act is applied in almost every case where there is an insult to National Honour by way of disrespecting the National symbols in public or private, done intentionally or othwerwise, punishable under the Act.
As per section 2 of the Act, “Whoever in any public place or in any other place within public view burns, mutilates, defaces, defiles, disfigures, destroys, tramples upon or otherwise shows disrespect to or brings into contempt (whether by words, either spoken or written, or by acts) the Indian National Flag or the Constitution of India or any part thereof, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years, or with fine, or with both.”
