Mentally ill man found with severed hand in Gumrah, Police launch investigation
In a shocking turn of affairs, a mentally ill man was discovered with a severed hand today at Gumrah in Cachar causing shock and fear among the locals. As per reports, Sayem Uddin, a mentally ill resident of Gumra Khelam area, left his home on Thursday, a routine practice for him, but failed to return. Concerned family members initiated a frantic search for him to find his whereabouts but couldn’t locate him.
The chilling discovery unfolded in the wee hours of Friday when some locals found Sayem Uddin in a gory condition at a farming field, a kilometre away from his home, with his hand severed. When questioned about the gruesome incident, Sayem Uddin was unable to provide any explanation, leaving witnesses baffled.
Swiftly responding to the situation, the locals rushed him to Kalain Hospital for immediate medical attention. However, given the critical nature of his injuries, the doctors at Kalain Hospital recommended transferring him to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH). He was subsequently shifted to SMCH.
Meanwhile, Pranjal Lakra, Inspector in-charge of Gumrah Police Outpost, arrived at the spot with his team after receiving news of the incident. The law enforcement officials recovered a sharp machete during preliminary investigation. The Inspector informed that the Police is currently investigating the incident and assured that the culprits will soon be brought to book.
