Conservationist Trikal Chakraborty rescues venomous snake in crowded Janiganj
In a daring rescue operation, dedicated conservationist Trikal Chakraborty sprang into action to save a red-tail bamboo pit viper that found itself in a perilous situation at the bustling Janiganj market.
Locals were taken aback when they noticed the venomous snake entangled with the wheel of a recently unloaded pulling cart, just across from the renowned Pandav Paul store. Panic ensued as the serpent was spotted, prompting someone to quickly alert Chakraborty.
Chakraborty, known for his commitment to wildlife preservation, rushed to the scene, braving a massive crowd that had gathered. “I have never rescued a snake amidst such a huge crowd,” he shared.
With unwavering determination and employing rigorous safety protocols, Chakraborty successfully extracted the snake from its precarious position. Following the rescue, the snake was transported and released back into its natural habitat.
The red-tail bamboo pit vipers, native to India, are classified under the family Viperidae and are known for their striking red tails, which serve as a warning to potential predators. These snakes are primarily arboreal, meaning they dwell in trees, and are vital contributors to India’s diverse ecosystem.
