CM's vigilance cell again in Karimganj: Investigates Tea Estate share purchase by MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha
The Assam Chief Minister’s vigilance cell dispatched a four-member team to Karimganj town to probe the purchase of shares in the Promodnagar tea estate by Congress legislator Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha. The investigative team has been actively pursuing leads in the case, and their presence in Karimganj has stirred interest in the community.
The team commenced their inquiry by visiting the Promodnagar tea estate, where they engaged in a conversation with the estate manager and inquired about the tea estate’s yearly turnover. Additionally, the officers spoke with laborers from the tea garden, and asked if they receive their remuneration regularly. These thorough investigations are part of the ongoing efforts to uncover any irregularities surrounding the tea estate transaction.
Following their visit to the tea estate, the vigilance cell officers proceeded to the Karimganj town circle office, where they requested few land related documents. Later, the team met with district commissioner Mridul Yadav, further deepening their understanding of the matter.
The vigilance cell officers have been stationed in Karimganj town, and it is anticipated that they will continue to question various individuals in the coming days as part of their rigorous inquiry. Earlier in the investigation, a retired engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD), Pranjit Das, was questioned at the vigilance office in Guwahati. Mr. Das, who is believed to be a close associate of MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, was grilled by the vigilance cell officers on October 5.
This probe by the vigilance team began twelve days ago when they first arrived in Karimganj to delve into the details of the tea-garden purchase by Purkayastha and his associates. The ongoing investigation has gained significant attention and scrutiny, as the authorities seek to ensure transparency and adherence to the law in the share acquisition of the Promodnagar tea estate.
