5am to 1pm Power Supply Disrupted in Silchar as Pre-Puja Maintenance Work Continues

The residents of Silchar, a major city in the Cachar district of Assam, were met with anxiety and inconvenience as power supply was disrupted since early morning today. However, it has been revealed that this disruption was part of a planned maintenance work undertaken by the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL).

The electricity supply in Silchar’s Subdivisions 1, 2 and 3, as well as Sonai, was intentionally disrupted starting at 5:00 a.m. and is expected to continue until at least 1:00 p.m. This interruption had been previously notified through newspaper advertisements that such power outages would occur for a couple of days.

In a statement provided to Barak Bulletin, Arup Nath, the Assistant General Manager (AGM) of APDCL-Cachar, explained, “The power supply disruption from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. is part of our pre-Puja maintenance work, which we undertake every year. This maintenance work focuses on the grid and power lines to ensure a reliable power supply.”

Nath further clarified that the power supply is set to be disrupted again on October 16 as part of the same maintenance work. Initially, the department had planned to disrupt electricity on both Saturday and Sunday, but considering that Saturday was Mahalaya, a significant festival, the decision was made to schedule the disruption on Sunday and Monday.

It is important to note that this maintenance work affects the power supply in the entire Silchar area, excluding Udharbond, Lakhipur, and Kalai. Residents in these areas will experience uninterrupted power during this period.
