Soma Das Murder Case: Cachar SP Reveals Details, 4 Detained so Far
In a shocking revelation earlier today, Cachar’s Superintendent of Police, Numal Mahatta, provided chilling insights into a disturbing murder case that unfolded on the night of 19/11/23 at Tolengram, Pallorbond, under the Lakhipur police station’s jurisdiction.
The SP disclosed that the police received distressing information about an unidentified female body found abandoned roadside. Swiftly responding, a police team rushed to the scene, initiating a prompt inquiry. An inquest by an executive magistrate was conducted following proper procedures, revealing the deceased as Soma Das, 27 years old, from Vill – Rabindra Sarani, Tarapur Shivbari Road, PS – Silchar.
During the investigation, a grim turn surfaced when Soma Das’ husband, Pradyut Das, son of the late Digendra Ch. Das, was apprehended and extensively questioned. Shockingly, Pradyut Das confessed to colluding with three others in the heinous crime. Subsequently, based on his revelation and technical analysis, another prime suspect, Arjun Baisnab (23), son of Sorolal Baisnab, was also detained.
Further interrogation of the accused led to the identification and subsequent arrest of Dulon Baishnab (49), son of the late Harendra Baishnab of Sibbari Tarapur, PS- Silchar, and Ronojit Baishnab (26), son of Haricharan Baishnab of Malini Beel, Tarapur, PS- Silchar, who had been evading police since the crime.
The SP revealed additional details, including the recovery of the vehicle (bearing registration no. ML-04-A-3452) used in the crime, found at Gumrah, as disclosed by Arjun Baishnab. The authorities have seized the vehicle as a critical piece of evidence.
This case falls under Lakhipur PS case no. 314/23 U/S-120(B)/302/34 IPC, initiated based on the FIR filed by the deceased’s mother. The investigation remains ongoing, focusing on consolidating the amassed vital evidence to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The community is left in disbelief and mourning as the shocking details of this tragedy continue to unfold. The SP assured the public of the authorities’ relentless pursuit of justice for Soma Das, promising to bring this case to its rightful closure.
