LPG Transport Association Calls for Meeting as Disruption in Supply Leading to Chaos in Silchar and Entire Assam
The suspension of North East Packed LPG Transporter Association (NEPLTA) operations continues to cast a long shadow over Assam, plunging Silchar and other parts of the northeastern state into an LPG crisis. With the supply of packed cooking gas halted since December 4, concerns mount over the region’s households and commercial establishments.
NEPLTA President Niranjan Mahanta clarified that the ongoing suspension stems from unresolved payment issues dating back to 2018, emphasizing that it’s not a strike but a suspension of operations. This decision has left Silchar’s Om Gas Agency and numerous other suppliers in dire straits since December 3, with depleted stock and customers left without access to LPG cylinders.
The association, representing a fleet of around 2500 trucks from various bottling plants in Assam, caters to the entire northeastern region’s LPG supply chain. The flash suspension of operations has severely disrupted this vital supply network.
Sources reveal that NEPLTA has convened meetings across various regions, Silchar included, aiming to negotiate a resolution. The hope rests on finding a mutually beneficial solution to restore the disrupted supply chain.
However, amidst the impasse, a ray of hope emerges as reports suggest that LPG bottling has resumed at the Jarailtala plant. This development potentially signals progress toward resolving the issue and salvaging the precarious situation.
The prolonged disruption, affecting not only Silchar but the entirety of Assam, poses a significant threat to households and businesses dependent on LPG. Commercial entities relying on cooking gas for their operations face imminent challenges, while households across the state confront the prospect of compromised kitchen functionality.
As stakeholders engage in discussions to resolve the standoff, the immediate reinstatement of LPG supply remains the critical need. The outcome of these deliberations holds the key to averting a potentially chaotic situation in Silchar and across Assam, ensuring the resumption of essential services and alleviating widespread inconvenience.
