Major Narcotics Bust on Silchar-Haflong Road: Four Arrested with Suspected Heroin
In a significant operation spurred by credible intelligence, Cachar Police intercepted a vehicle on the Silchar-Haflong road near the Balacherra toll gate, leading to the seizure of two soap cases suspected to contain heroin. The vehicle, bearing registration number AS 06 E 7979, was searched meticulously, revealing a concealed stash in specially made chambers.
Cachar Superintendent of Police, Numal Mahatta, issued a press statement detailing the operation, stating, “Acting on credible intelligence, our team intercepted the vehicle and uncovered what appears to be a significant quantity of heroin. This operation is a testament to our commitment to combating the illegal narcotics trade that poses a serious threat to our communities.”
The four individuals apprehended in connection with the illicit drug haul have been identified as Munna Khan (40 years old), son of Islam Khan from Sonari Town; Azaur Rahman (29 years old), son of Wasid Ali from Sonari Teok Rajabari; Asibur Rahman (22 years old), son of Mafijur Rahman from Sonari Ward No. 7; and Bishal Baidya (23 years old), the driver and son of Sri Shambhu Baidya from Sonari Bhabanipur Ward No. 9. These are residents of Charaideo District of Assam.
All four suspects are currently in custody and are undergoing intensive interrogation. The authorities are working to uncover the full extent of the alleged drug trafficking network. The seized substances, suspected to be heroin, will undergo forensic analysis to determine their composition and potency. The authorities are yet to trace the origin and destination of the illegal narcotics to dismantle any associated criminal networks.
